Pollak, Jacob
(1460/1470-after 1522)
   Polish rabbi and halakhic authority. He was born in Bavaria, and became a rabbi in Prague, where he was a member of the bet din. Later he went to Krakow, where he opened the first yeshivah in Poland, and insti-tuted the intepretive method known as pilpul (fine distinctions). In 1503 he was appointed by King Alexander as the rabbi of the whole of Poland.
